Our 2018 Christmas Message

Hi,
I thought we should go online for our Christmas message this year, and save a bit of paper/some trees.
It's been a busy year again for the whole family.
Olivia went out for two months to Australia, Cambodia and Vietnam.  Started with a walk over Sydney Harbour Bridge (the high structure, not just the road!) and had a great time from there on.  The group that she was with changed gradually over the weeks, as some had booked slightly different tours, so some left and other joined them, which enabled her to meet masses of young people from all over the world.
She really wants to work with big/wild animals (so not really a Vet nurse) and now has a job at Woburn Safari Park, at the moment working in their 'Leisure' area - either on the little train, the swan pedalo boats, or the Ark indoor kids play area, but is allowed to volunteer to work with the animals, and hopes that the job might progress.
Alex finished her Masters Degree in Salzburg gaining a 1st class degree, and now has a job out there working in an electronics form - AB electronics.  She is thoroughly enjoying living there, and we went out for a skiing trip (first ever for Alex, and a return to skiing after about ten years for Olivia, and about 30 years for me!).
Heather did not ski, and was disappointed that there was little else to do in the rather small village we were at.  Even the promised spa treatments were for Hotel guests only, and we were in a villa.
Heather's mother went into a care home over a year ago, and moved fairly quickly to a MUCH nicer home . . . purpose built, with three sections for 'sheltered accommodation', those who need more care (where Sylvia is) and the dementia patients.  Heather or her sister Esther try to visit almost every day, which is quite time consuming.
My mother (99 next month!) had a health problem last winter but got back into playing golf until a few weeks ago when she fell out of bed and fractured a vertebra.  She is in Respite Care just now but coming back home with 24 hour care before Christmas, so improving, and already talking about golf again!
I keep busy as a Churchwarden, and Choirmaster of our village choir who meet for the 4 'big' services of the year - Easter, Patronal, Harvest and Christmas, so this is a particularly busy time with our 9 Lessons and Carols coming up this weekend.
I have also increased my ambitions on the walking front from the 26 mile marathon last year, to the Ouse Valley Way in September this year - 153 miles of the River Great Ouse, the fourth longest river in the UK.  I walked for 9 days from the source just west of Buckingham to the mouth at Kings Lynn!  It was quite a struggle at times, but I managed to raise nearly £1,500 for Young Minds UK, which is a Charity which helps the increasing number of young people with mental health problems.  If you would like to view a photo tour of my route, it's here https://arcg.is/G00PS0
All our love to you all,
Robert, Heather, Olivia and Alex (remotely from Salzburg)
